Spanish

Introduction

At Christ Church we celebrate diversity of both culture and experience. Learning a language opens up our pupils to different cultures from around the world, helping them to both understand and be understood in another language.

Our pupils are introduced to Spanish right from reception. They have the chance to participate in Super Learning Days where children learn all about the culture of Spanish-speaking countries and develop simple language through speaking and singing. Formal weekly Spanish lessons commence In Key Stage 2. From Year 3 upwards students participate in language lessons where their speaking, listening, reading and writing of Spanish develops. Children progress through a proven programme which carefully develops their language knowledge and allows pupils to gradually increase both their spoken and written Spanish. To enhance the teaching of Spanish within our schools staff across our partnership have engaged in intensive European Region Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students (ERASMUS) programme where the staff involved are immersed into Spanish culture and education

Studying Spanish gives our pupils a sound foundation in modern foreign languages helping them progress further in secondary school and beyond.
