Music is the art of sound, it can lift our hearts and allow children to explore and express their creativity. At Christ Church our music curriculum engages and inspires pupils to develop a love of music as well as their talent as musicians. Music is taught at Christ Church by the experts in the Salford Music and Performing Arts Service (MAPAS) team. For each class the MAPAS tutor teaches a different instrument and all pupils have their own instrument to play in music lessons. Our children learn to play strings, percussion and woodwind whilst at Christ Church. During their time at Christ Church pupils have the opportunity to perform for an audience, including at the MAPAS Annual Showcase at The Lowry.
The Christ Church and Lewis Street Partnership have an active joint choir named The Project Pat Choir. The choir participate in a range of local competitions and events, often performing alongside other schools and at events organised by MAPAS. They practise together weekly. At Christ Church all children sing weekly during assemblies and from Year 2 upwards all pupils sing together in our weekly singing practice. Christ Church and Lewis Street Primary Schools frequently participate together in PopUK. All children across the partnership learn and practise uplifting and inspiring songs especially developed by the PopUK team ahead of a joint concert for parents and the local community.
