Music

Introduction

Music is the art of sound, it can lift our hearts and allow children to explore and express their creativity. At Christ Church our music curriculum engages and inspires pupils to develop a love of music as well as their talent as musicians. We use 'Charanga' as our music scheme and in addition we have an expert music teacher visit weekly from the Salford Music and Performing Arts Service (MAPAS) team. Our children learn to play a range of percussion instruments (tuned and untuned) whilst at Christ Church. Pupils have the opportunity to perform for an audience, including at the MAPAS Wider Opportunities Annual Showcase at The Lowry, the MAPAS Annual Big Sing and POP UK events. We also attend music concerts such as the BBC Philharmonic and  Halle Orchestras.

The Christ Church and Lewis Street Partnership have a joint choir named The Project Pat Choir. The choir have participated in a range of local competitions and events, often performing alongside other schools and at events organised by MAPAS.  At Christ Church, all children sing weekly during assemblies and from Year 1 upwards all pupils sing together in our weekly singing practice. Christ Church and Lewis Street Primary Schools frequently participate together in PopUK. All children across the partnership learn and practise uplifting and inspiring songs especially developed by the PopUK team ahead of a joint concert for parents and the local community.
